The salary and conditions of appointment are in accordance with the JNC Report for Youth and Community Workers, which stipulates working no more than 8 evening sessions per fortnight.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (indicate the main accountabilities and responsibilities of the post, starting with the most important and describing each in a separate numbered paragraph).
The postholder must at all times carry out her/his duties with due regard to the Council’s
Customer Care, Equal Opportunities and Best Value Policies and incorporating the Council’s Core Competencies.
To assist the Senior Area Worker in ensuring that a programme of activities is developed and delivered in accordance with planned curriculum outcomes and organisational objectives.
To prepare and monitor annual budgets in relation to planned programmes.
To ensure that all programmes and budgets are appropriately monitored and evaluated.
To ensure that appropriate records are maintained.
To assist the Senior Area Worker in attracting additional funds for specific projects.
To ensure that 60% of all youth work has recorded outcomes and 30% accredited outcomes within the defined area.
To ensure that all referred or allocated young people have at least three one to one sessions per quarter.
To make appropriate and supported referrals of young people who have in-depth or long term support needs.
To keep informed of current issues affecting young people locally, nationally and internationally.
To facilitate and promote the involvement of young people in the development of projects and work in the defined area.
To assist the Senior Area Worker in training events for sessional staff, volunteers and senior members.
Any other duties as reasonably required by the Head of Service/Area Manager and indicated by national or local requirements.
To ensure that targets (eg number of recorded and accredited outcomes) are established and achieved.
To complete and submit weekly forecast sheets/staff returns and management information.
Special Projects, Outreach, One to one work and group work
To undertake appropriate outreach including work with schools, colleges and the local Wards.
To assist the team in the development of appropriate materials for curriculum work and development.
To participate in special events and projects eg Respect Week, Youth Connect Week, Holiday Projects, Awards ceremony and any other event that is specific to your area of work and furthers the objectives of the organisation.
To develop Youth Forums and assist in borough wide youth participation initiatives.
To ensure that the needs of the individual young people are assessed using appropriate tools (eg Rickter Scale, APIR, Referral system etc).
Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation
To assist the Senior Area worker in undertaking of needs assessments and mapping of facilities/resources within the defined Area.
To attend appropriate supervision and meetings as and when required, in line with Council policies.
To assist the Senior Area worker in determining appropriate evaluation procedures to monitor and record all aspects of the services provided and to carry out day to day administration, monitoring and recording.
To be responsible for publishing the programme/project as part of the planning and evaluation process
