The Underwriting Product Manager is accountable for optimising the underwriting profit of the Small Business products within their remit.

To contribute to the profitable growth of commercial lines business by delivering top (GWP) and bottom (Underwriting Profit) line growth of Small Business Property Owners product(s) by:

- Contributing to the development of the strategy, business plan for the product(s), ensuring this is consistent with the overall strategic and product/technical underwriting direction and collaborating with key stakeholders across the business.
- Developing and implementing projects and initiatives to deliver the business plan.
- Analysing the performance of the product(s) against the approved strategy and business plan and identifying on-going appropriate actions, ensuring these are effectively & efficiently implemented.
- Lead the monthly product meetings for their product and in collaboration with technical underwriting, pricing and claims management team drive actions for profitable growth.
- In collaboration with colleagues in Commercial Underwriting, ensuring the product(s) positioning (wording and underwriting – appetite, and pricing) remains consistent with the agreed strategy, identifying and executing refinements within a framework of high quality continuous improvement.
- Optimising the product’s “e-trade” effectiveness (wording and underwriting) for both client (subject to distribution strategy) and broker portals
- Defining the underwriting rules, rating structure and rates (with input from Analysts in Small Business & Pricing as appropriate) for core and bespoke propositions, ensuring these are correctly applied.
- Writing and maintaining high quality policy wordings in accordance with agreed corporate and Commercial Lines frameworks, templates and standards.
- In conjunction with Business Development colleagues (e-trade and broker) develop and maintain profitable opportunities and relationships with key existing and potential trading partners.

- Dip CII or significant progress towards.

- An accomplished product/portfolio underwriter. Experience in Residential and Commercial Property Owners products desired but Personal Lines Home experience can also be considered. The job holder will have worked in both trading and underwriting product development/management roles.
- A strong and decisive approach to portfolio underwriting.
- Experience of building and refining e-trading products, from definition of product strategy, through development of underwriting collateral (wording/definition of rules and rates) to implementation and onward review and refinement.
- Extensive knowledge of the product in the context of overall UK SME and particularly small business/e-trading markets.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, deploying these to build and maintain mutually beneficial external and internal relationships and outcomes.
- Sound awareness of the market and legal/industry developments and the ability to influence necessary change.
- Excellent literacy, numeracy and analytical skills.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Strong time management, prioritisation and delegation skills, ensuring effective delivery across a range projects and initiatives.
- Strong personal drive and execution focus.
- Proactive, innovative and able to take the initiative.
- Good PC Skills.
