My client, a London Bourough Counci, are currently recruiting for an experienced Trading Standards Officer to join their team based in South East London.

Main purpose of the job


To respond, investigate and where appropriate perform enforcement and regulatory functions of a civil & criminal nature on a variety of matters and complaints relating to community safety, ASB, Public Health and Nuisance, and other statutory nuisance, trading standards and licensing issues. To include collecting and preparing evidence and presenting it in court etc.

To provide a timely response to complainants and victims of crime according to set protocols and procedures.

To provide specialist and technical advice within the Council and provide information and education to businesses and residents in the Borough.

To facilitate the identification of particular pockets/hotspots of concern in relation to anti-social behaviour, environmental protection, trading standards or licensing across Lewisham and to promote better partnership working with both statutory and voluntary agents. To set up, operate and monitor preventative and enforcement measures and initiatives to resolve such issues.

To provide advice and assistance for frontline staff and Partner Services including licensed private landlords, registered social landlords, the private housing sector and the business community to tackle anti-social behaviour, environmental protection, trading standards and licensing concerns using a broad range of interventions including preventative and legal remedies.

Person Specification:

Essential

- At least 5 years' comprehensive, recent experience of Trading Standards work immediately prior to application. 

- Training or experience across most or all Trading Standards activities

- Working knowledge of investigation in Trading Standards environment with proven track record of inspection, seizure, continuity and progress to court in line with Trading Standard protocols.

- Able to start imminently.

Desirable

- FCATS, DCATS, DCA or DTS qualification

- Financial investigation experience/accreditation
