We currently have an urgent requirement for a number of Planners and a Senior Planners in Leicester on behalf of the Council.

Candidates will be processing planning applications and would need to have experience in development management planning and have a degree or equivalent in Town Planning.

Job Purpose
To undertake senior level planning work to deliver the statutory functions of the local planning authority and associated services in accordance with the objectives of the planning service.

Major Objectives
these will include, as appropriate, those that reflect key corporate priorities, for example, Cultural Diversity, Social Justice, Environmental Quality and Economic Prosperity.
To work efficiently and effectively to meet agreed performance targets.
To carry out the functions of the team in accordance with established procedures, policies and any relevant statutory legislation and guidance.
To comply with professional practice and ethical standards.
To assist in achieving a working environment free of harassment and discrimination.
To consider the needs of acknowledged disadvantaged groups when delivering the Planning Service.
To help ensure that the Council's sustainable development and environmental policies are implemented and practised.
To facilitate the planning services contribution to corporate projects and initiatives and engagement with partners and key stakeholders.

Summary of Job Tasks
Undertakes the more complex and senior level work of the team or group and makes recommendations and decisions accordingly.
Deputises for and assists the team leader and takes the lead in his or her absence.
Provides specialist advice and information in own area of expertise and responsibility.
Provides expert guidance, advice and supervision to other staff as required.
Provides expert policy and technical guidance and recommendations on planning and related matters to participants of the planning process including the public, members, other officers, businesses, other professional groups and local authorities.
Prepares and presents evidence or reports to public inquiries, courts, committees, or public meetings in their area of expertise and responsibility.
Organises and undertakes research and data analysis and develops information resources, including web based sources as required.
Undertakes site inspections, surveys, consultations, negotiations and public participation as required
This will be on a contracting basis initially for 12 weeks but likely to extend. Hourly rate negotiable depending on experience.
