Manage and lead staff to achieve high performance and effective operational delivery, including developing and improving staff capability and ensuring that staff are deployed effectively to meet statutory requirements. Promoting and reinforcing effective practice in the Youth Offending Service, being responsible for defensible decision making, exercising accountability and judgement.
Responsible for the case management of complex cases, the caseload being based on up to 50% of a Case Manager caseloads; alongside the responsibility for an area of professional expertise as determined by the needs of the service.
Carry out assessments, produce reports and establish plans to manage risk, vulnerability, safeguarding concerns and ensure public protection. Oversee and quality-assure assessments, plans and reports produced by YOS Case Managers.
Make a positive contribution to the delivery of the service, this will include working flexibly and positively to achieve the objectives of the Council. Ensuring that the Council’s overall vision, values and ethos are central to the requirements of the Youth Offending Service; supporting effective working relationships and act as an ambassador and advocate with external organisations, working with internal and external partners that provide services for young people.
Keep up to date with developments in service delivery and best practice to ensure the service performs effectively and to the highest standards.
Responsible for the management, supervision and training of staff and volunteers, providing regular supervision and appraisal within Council guidelines.
To develop and ensure consistent policy, practice and procedures in accordance with legislation and guidance for specialist and lead areas within the remit of the post.
Carry out duties with due regard to the council’s customer care, equal opportunities, information governance, data protection and health and safety policies and procedures.
Undertake any other duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility of this post.
Professional qualification relevant to the Youth Justice Sector
Evidence of significant relevant CPD.
Knowledge of the legislation, principles and practice underpinning delivery of youth justice services.
Knowledge of the assessment and management of risk, vulnerability, safeguarding and public protection in the context of youth justice service provision.
Understanding and knowledge of the principles and practice of involving and engaging young people in the planning and delivery of youth justice service interventions.
Substantial experience of supervising ‘a caseload’ of vulnerable children and young people.
Management of a complex Youth Offending Caseload
Achievement of quality in service delivery which complies with expected standards.
Working in and developing internal and external multi-agency partnership relationships to maximise support and services for young people.
