The Materials Science team work closely with a number of industrial partners, addressing formulation and solid form challenges through Solid State Structural Informatics and computational modelling methods. The successful applicant will join the team in Cambridge, engage in R&D and work closely with industrial partners.

In addition to the application of the structural informatics, the candidate will be expected to write scripts in python to advance and deliver the science. A collaborative role such as this will require good presentation skills, both written and oral, as well as a proven ability to deliver a programme of work on time.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supporting the Materials Science team with research and development activities

Play a leading role in ensuring the development of streamlined methods for generating informatics data tailored to the needs of the industrial partner through liaison with a software development team and through scripting.

Prepare and submit research reports on work undertaken as required

Generate effective interactions with industrial partner scientists to establish and maintain the best methodologies for data sharing and report content

Handle information and data with the required level of security and confidentiality.

Support efforts to manage and maintain the day-to-day running of the partnership

Present and demonstrate results of work undertaken at internal meetings

On occasion, provide expert scientific user support, externally and internally collaborating with other members of the Group and with other staff as necessary

On occasion, take part in product testing, and in the preparation of documentation, marketing literature and promotional material.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

Educated to PhD level or equivalent

Experience of assessing or investigating intermolecular interactions either with a view to understanding molecular packing or to engineering a particular motif or structure

Experience of producing scripts in the Python programming language

Experience of writing reports and summarising scientific findings concisely and clearly

A demonstrable interest in structural chemistry and the role of intermolecular interactions in stabilising crystal lattices
