To work within an assigned team engaged in Highway & Urban Design, Traffic Management/Regulations, Traffic signals, projects as appropriate to comply with the Council’s statutory requirements and priorities. 

Ensuring a holistic approach to projects; working towards delivery of schemes including any potential environmental improvements possible either independently or by liaising with other teams/departments.

To assist the Team Leader and Engineer to investigate all complaints and service request and undertake initial investigations, consultation, design, commissioning and implementation of the projects.

Key Responsibilities:

To investigate schemes, analyse data, design and implement schemes within set time frame and budgets.

To undertake CAD design for assigned projects based on above.

Assist in the preparation of projects for implementation, design standard details where necessary, and liaise with internal and external parties during the progression of the accepted schemes. Assist in progressing them through to committee.

Undertake surveys and make other technical assessments in order to deliver projects and services that comply with the national standards and deliver value for money.

Prepare committee reports, attend meetings with ward councillors and other external bodies.


to improve the numbers of children and young people using sustainable modes of transport for their school journey.

To assist in investigating and undertaking the design and implementation of  highways, drainage, traffic, road safety, traffic control and parking management schemes and overseeing schemes including all consultation as well as contract liaison, estimates and cost control of projects.

Supporting the Senior Technician, Engineer and Team Leader in supervision of the contractors, managing the works on site, checking all works conform to standards including measurement after works are complete to  agree final accounts for completed projects for authorising of payment certificates


Ensuring all correspondence and telephone calls responded to efficiently and effectively to meet key performance indicators.

.To assist and where necessary contribute to the corporate delivery of the Council’s vision, goals and core values and provide a clear sense of direction, optimism and purpose in the implementation of corporate policies and strategies.

Assist in the section’s contribution to the strategic development, including policy development, financial strategy, workforce planning and general management, consistent with the Group Service Plan.

To assist  in managing trainee staff, subcontractors, consultants and other resources in
Meeting the requirements of projects/section in terms of achieving value for money, service excellence and financial targets consistent with the Group Service Plan.

To assist the team/group in developing close relationship and collaboration with the Customer Services Section in transforming both the Section and the Service into a Customer Focused Service where people’s perception of the Service is that;

To ensure that these duties are carried out in accordance with the Council policies, with particular reference to the Council’s policies on Equality and Diversity, and to health and safety requirements.

To ensure that at all times procedures and arrangements within the Section are run fully in accordance with Council Standing Orders and Financial Regulations, in accordance with specifications, contract arrangements and within budgets allocated.
