Do you have previous experience as a social worker in a statutory environment?

Reed are currently seeking Qualified Social Workers for a Fostering Team in the London Borough of Brent. 

Job Purpose:
To carry out her/his duties with due regard to the Council’s Customer Care, Equal Opportunities and Best Value Policies and incorporating the Council’s Core Competencies.
To work with the Shared Care Co-ordinator to maintain a database of all children requiring respite care through the Share and Care scheme through liaison with the Children with Disabilities team

To participate in the duty rota system, working in partnership with Children’s social workers to co-ordinate safe and appropriate foster placements for children in Brent.

To undertake supervisory visits in line with policy and legislation.

To write detailed referrals, profiles and reports that reflects an understanding of the needs of Looked after Children requiring a Shared care resource and a commitment to culturally sensitive practice addressing the needs of children and young people with disabilities.

To liaise, problem solve and negotiate with social workers, foster carers, independent fostering agencies and members of the public to ensure the best interest of the child are met.

To provide information, undertake assessments and make recommendations regarding the suitability of prospective foster care applicants who have applied to be Shared care foster carers.

To be aware of and work within appropriate financial regulations and procedures and to ensure that the most effective use is made of financial and other resources.

The ability to work as part of a team.

To maintain performance against targets, have the ability and commitment to use Information Technology .

To contribute towards the development of best practice within the unit.

To take a high degree of responsibility for professional development.

To participate in projects to recruit substitute families and evaluate their effectiveness.

To keep abreast of relevant legislation and regulations, departmental policies and procedures affecting the fostering service.

To participate in regular supervision and the Performance Management Employee Development Scheme.

To take part in the provision of training for foster care applicants and foster carers.
