A large and well known UK Retailer with nationwide outlets turning over in excess of £200 million, have created this new role due to expansion and a stronger focus on Commercial Finance.

This is a new role within the organisation with the primary objectives of assisting and supporting the Buying and Merchandising function by providing Finance input and analysis.

Additionally the role will offer independent and impartial output of information to the Business Leadership team and Commercial Director on a timely and more formal basis. This output will be agreed in advance by the Business as business critical.

Routine reporting – improve existing regular reports and provide meaningful commentary to assist decision making.

o Merchandising analysis report – to highlight actual sales performance against range forecasts and offer summary weekly commentary to be included in the weekly trading meeting. Analysis split by top performing ranges, new range introduction.
o Margin performance by range with comparison against forecast.
o Sales mix performance against forecast and budget.

Forecast review – analysis of forecast variances with the aim of improving forecast accuracy by aligning current and historic information with future marketing plans.

o To ensure forecast output is consistent with requirements of business. All forward forecast plans extend to period required by Supply Chain for forward stock ordering.
o To review actual monthly performance of sales, sales mix and margin at a range level against forecast and budget plans. To assess accuracy at range levels and offer critique for future forecasts.
o To review future forecast for any business risks. To review against current trends and obtain commentary from B&M function for any forecast movement against current trends.
o To review and measure new product sales and margin performance against forecast.
o Identify risks of achievement within the forecast and measure profitability impact. Ensure these risks are communicated to B&M for mitigation of risks and then onward to the Forecasting Process Manager.

• PPA – Product Profitability Analysis. A regular review by range of total profitability taking into account customer service, logistics, marketing etc to look for trends by supplier, identify poorly performing ranges and thus improve product profitability.

• Pre promotional performance analysis and review. To attach profitability analysis to B&M promotional plans for review by Leadership team.

• Post promotional performance review. Formal review and presentation to profitability of performance post promotion completion. To include August BH, Peak trading, Easter and May Day BH.

• Assess performance of promoted lines and review profitability.

KPI’s
• Improved forecasting at product level.
• Reduced stock holding of discontinued and damaged clearance lines.
• Reduced stock holding of Express lines.


You will need to be CIMA / ACCA / ACA Qualified with 5 years Post Qualified Experience in a large Retailer or FMCG organisation.

An understanding of Buying & Merchandising will be required as well as strong Senior Stakeholder Engagement experience in a medium to large firm
