Job Role: School Improvement Officer - Science
Location: Bradford
Start Date: January 2020
Salary: £53,724 to £59,265 pro rata
Term: Term time Only, 2 days per week, Fixed Term until 31/1/2021

I am currently working with an exciting and innovating trust in the Bradford area for an exciting new role. Starting from January 2020 the school are looking for an outstanding practitioner to join them on a fixed term basis and act as a School Improvement Officer in the area of Science. 

Job Purpose:

To contribute to the development of a Trust that is transforming the educational standards and character development of our young people with an emphasis on creating a culture that inspires personal growth, development and performance driven outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Provide dynamic, consistent and motivational leadership to senior leaders across the trust academies, ensuring the successful delivery of the vision, ethos and objectives of the Trust
    • Foster positive working relationships with staff within the academies to gain commitment to the need for improvement, creating a collaborative learning culture of high expectations, creativity and aspiration
  • Teaching and Learning
    • Quality assure the teaching and learning within the science department to ensure there are effective strategies in place for raising pupils’ achievement and progress within the subject area
    • Support the science department with their approach to managing behaviour within the faculty to ensure the policy is being embedded and fairly and consistently applied
  • Systems and Processes
    • Develop the cluster model of local schools working together to support and challenge each other to improve school quality
    • Develop a culture of personal responsibility that recognises both excellence and supports appropriate strategies to deal with under performance in accordance with Trust appraisal and capability policies and procedures
  • The self-improving school system
    • Treat everyone within each academy and cluster fairly and equitably demonstrating our core values such as honesty, respect, integrity, inclusiveness, growth
    • Support each academy and cluster to establish strong middle leadership roles within a distributed leadership structure 
  • Trust Responsibilities
    • Identify opportunities for growth of the Trust
    • Risk assess and undertake due diligence on potential converter and sponsored schools
    • Work with schools and external agencies to support the conversion process

Person Specification:

  • A degree qualification in Science
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Substantial, recent and relevant experience in educational leadership with a demonstrable record of school improvement
  • Detailed understanding of the current Ofsted inspection system and experience of supporting Schools through Ofsted inspections
  • Experience of leading on performance management and successfully addressing underperformance
