Welfare & Attendance Assistant

Monday to Friday, 8.30 – 4.30pm 

Temporary post to cover Maternity Leave - Sept 2020 until Easter 2021 

I am recruiting for a Welfare & Attendance Assistant to join a recent Ofsted rated 'Good' school in  for September 2020 to help achieve excellent attendance and be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children within the school, including those with medical needs.

Duties include:

Attendance

  • Ensure all registers are completed in the allocated time with the correct codes
  • Receive and record details of parents/carers arriving late with their children – ensuring all late pupils are entered into the school SIMs registers
  • Record all absences (and the reason for the absence) into SIMs registers and ensure all unexplained absences are accounted for or send letter requesting an explanation
  • Receive and record details of parents/carers arriving late with their children – ensuring all late pupils are entered into the school SIMs registers
  • Identify children/families who require support with their attendance and punctuality and liaise with Education Welfare Officer and staff within the Inclusion team
  • Assist and check records prior to the Census to ensure school attendance is accurate and up to date and contribute to plan to improve whole school attendance figures and ensure targets are completed

Medical

  • Undertake pupil first aid/welfare duties - looking after sick pupils and supervising pupils with specific medical needs
  • Supervise the self-administering of medicine by children
  • Ensure staff are aware of protocols for medication (e.g. asthma pumps) in the classroom/trips/PE and prepare medical packs for all school trips
  • Maintaining manual and computerised first aid and medical records and deal with health checks, immunisation programmes and risk assessments 
  • Liaise with health professionals as the point of contact for the school for individual pupils and families
