Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is looking for 3 Sessional Registration Assistants to join the Customer Service Team. This is a lovely opportunity being offered on a zero hour basis. 

This position is permanent and on an 'as and when basis' so there are no set hours but cover is required to ensure the team can continue to run smoothly. You will play a key supporting role. The peak season for this team is the summer months so the team are keen to get the right candidates for the role as soon as possible. The salary estimate is approximately £4500 - £6000 per annum.

A key purpose of this role is to provide cover for the Registration Service Office for weddings, civil partnerships and other ceremonies when required (this will also include some weekend work and bank holidays and on very rare occassions, a late night).

As a Sessional Registration Officer you will be trained in how to usher at ceremonies; including collating and working the playlist for ceremonies; setting up and clearing the rooms for weddings; serving refreshments after the ceremonies; liaising with the venue and registrars on any issues that may arise at the venue. At times you may be required to provide cover for the office where administrative duties such as issuing copy certificates, booking in appointments, and collating paperwork will be the main duties. 


There are no specialist qualifications required but it will require training to be a registration assistant for weddings and ceremonies which will be delivered in-house by a senior registration officer. Duties expected at weddings will include serving drinks, dealing with customers, and clearing up when proceedings are finished therefore a background in registrations, events or hospitality will be beneficial in this job.

Southend Borough Council is seeking confident and capable individuals with strong administration skills so that they can run ceremonies and also use their transferable skills within the office setting. It is essential that the successful applicant can demonstrate a good level of education alongside strong IT skills and excellent communication skills. Due to the nature of the role, being methodical and accurate in your work is key. Also being articulate is important as you may be the first point of contact on the phones. Please note this role requires flexibility as you may work evenings and weekends. Due to the location of many of the services you will need to be a driver with your own car.
