Are you a recent science graduate with industry experience? There is a superb role for you at this large, well-known speciality Chemicals Company based in the North of England.

The company is looking for a quality control technician to perform QC testing on all products received, manufactured and filled in accordance with quality standards and procedures, ensuring that manufactured products meet with specification prior to dispatch to customers. Routine testing involved the analysis and approval of approximately 13,000 samples of blended products and raw materials per annum.

The position requires good teamwork and strong communications with colleagues and internal customers. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are required at all times. The role is dependent upon a proactive self-motivated approach to ensure production demands are met. Flexibility of working hours is required to cover Laboratory shift pattern which is determined by Production requirements.


- Assist in the preparation and review of GMP related documents (SOP’s, analytical methods, specifications, etc.)

- Routinely perform typical standard analysis such as Infrared spectroscopy, Viscosity, Specific gravity, Elemental analysis, and accurately record results.

- Create batch sheets as requested by production. Ensuring formulations are adjusted for optimal results, using PC-based blend viscosity programs when appropriate.

- Prepare, analyse and retain laboratory pilot / trial blends for pre-industrialisation study.

- Undertake numerical calculations such as when calculating net weights, batch sheet production and issuing batch corrections.

- Ensure teste equipment is in working order, calibrated, maintained and verification checks are performed as required prior to use. Troubleshoot issues where necessary, and refer to line manager any problems which cannot be resolved.

- Ensure non-conforming stock, raw materials and finished products are clearly identified and segregated away from concerned parties throughout and propose remedial action.

- Demonstrate an awareness of COSHH, CLP and REACH and apply this to all aspects of the role, including correct labelling of chemicals/solvents.

- Propose improvements to analytical methods or working practices and participate in department and company improvement programmes

Specific Requirements

- HND or Degree within a Scientific discipline or relevant Work experience.
- Excellent mathematical and IT skills: Excel, Word and Access
- At least one years practical experience within a technical / laboratory environment
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
