- Undertake planned and routine maintenance on a wide range of mechanical services, plant and non-medical equipment; this will also include inspection, testing and commissioning all in accordance with Trust procedure.
- Undertake essential repair works and daily maintenance defect work to recognised standards and time scales.
- Diagnose and repair faults on complex specialist commercial hot and cold water systems, heating systems, pressurised systems, heating & ventilation systems, natural gas systems, building management systems, catering equipment and other critical systems and equipment.
- Carry out minor new installation and alteration works to engineering plant, equipment and services.
- Responsible, as the gas authorised competent person, for the installation of gas supplies and the undertaking of annual gas safety checks on varying sizes and types of heating boilers, kitchen equipment and their flues.
- To advise your Supervisor regarding plant and equipment failures, of additional works required and to identify materials and services required.
- Complete all works to a high standard and to the satisfaction of your Supervisor whilst meeting the Departments aims and objectives.
- Carry out all duties in a professional and conscientious manner.
- Participate in the NHS Labour Management Scheme (LMS) including the daily completion of job dockets, summary and timesheets.
- Ensure all report forms, documentation and test certificates are accurately completed in compliance with the Departments policies and procedures.
- Carry all works out to approved safety systems at all times to prevent damage or injury to ones self, other staff, plant and equipment with particular care when working in hazardous, confined, unpleasant areas or working at height.
- Ensure all works are carried out to comply with manufacturers technical specification, Health Technical Memorandums (HTM’s), Approved Codes of Practice (ACoP’s), Accredited Certificate Scheme (ACS), Water &Gas Regulations and the Trusts’ Safety Standards and Procedures.
- Use correctly relevant tools, diagnostic and test equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and in compliance with Health & Safety guidelines.
- Be responsible for all your tools, equipment and materials whilst carrying out work in a safe manner when working in the mental health, forensic services and acute hospital environments.
- Interpret and work from routine instructions, drawings and specifications without supervision.
- Undertake a limited range of other trades work relating to the work in hand with a level of competence following appropriate training.
- Must be able to work harmoniously with fellow craftspersons and contractors.
- Communicate with customers at all levels to ensure jobs are completed
to their satisfaction.
- Undertake work in patient and staff occupied areas with regard for the health and safety of the occupants and in a sympathetic manner.
- In response to the changing needs of the Trusts’ service, work with Maintenance Services Management to develop new initiatives that positively contribute to the overall efficiency and performance of the Department.
- Wear Maintenance Services uniform, identification badge and personal protective equipment.
- Undertake formal certified or in-house training as identified to develop specialist skills or to comply with a statutory regulation requiring a valid certificate of competence supported with a history of competent working practices.
