One of these roles is being offered at 13 hours per week; Winter (end of October to beginning May) Saturday 9 – 5, Sunday 9 – 3; Summer (beginning of May to late October) Saturday and Sunday 9.30 – 5 or the 18 hour post; Winter Friday 9 – 5, Saturday 9 – 2.30 and Sunday 9 – 2; Summer Friday 9 – 5, Saturday 9 – 1 and Sunday 9:30 - 5.
This is a fantastic job opportunity to play a significant role in a small team who deliver high quality customer service to Southend museum visitors and a great time to join the team with many forthcoming events to take a proactive role in.
The museum team are passionate about engaging with visitors and promoting the local collections and exhibitions. The museum officers will join the team in providing front line services to those that visit the museum, this will include meeting and greeting all visitors. You will be a key point of contact for any queries visitors may have, therefore being approachable and knowledgeable is key. Training will be given, to ensure that you have confidence in conveying the information to visitors in an enthusiastic way. Having someone who is genuinely interested and passionate around this area of work would lend itself to being effective in the role.
The successful applicants for the job will lend support to the volunteers in their daily duties alongside playing an important role in the security of the site. You will have the responsibility of being a key holder. Museum officers also assist in the shop, ensuring visitors are informed about merchandise that is promoted and sold, therefore there will be some cash handling in the job role. The team are seeking individuals who are confident when conversing with the public in a customer service facing role, therefore retail or front of house experience is desired.
Flexibility is required to move around the local museums as and when required. Although based at the Central Museum you will also work across sites such as the Beecroft art gallery, Southchurch Hall, and Prittlewell Priory to increase your knowledge and experience. There are different events across the sites. Weddings are also held at two sites therefore being able to assist in providing a high standard of customer service to all guests is critical.
Much of the time is spent working with the public therefore tact, patience and a pleasant, helpful manner is essential. Ideally you will have some knowledge of customer service, and enjoy working with the public to the highest standards of customer care. If you are an effective communicator who enjoys helping people of all ages this could be the role for you! Please note museum staff are subject to a system of flexible rostering.
