To work as part of a team of multi-skilled Media & Engagement Officers and to be responsible for delivering proactive and planned campaigns whilst retaining the flexibility to respond to operational or organisational requirements as necessary. This is an interim role up to 6 months. 


This is not a comprehensive list of all tasks which may be required of the post holder. It is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the work to be undertaken.

To develop relevant and measurable communications and marketing campaigns which support the organisation priorities whilst displaying clear links to the priorities of the senior managers and departments
To advise staff on the most effective ways of engaging with communities or groups and to support them in their engagement activities
To provide regular content to keep the organisation’s digital and social media channels updated and to help maintain the website and social media feeds
To provide advice and guidance to staff on their use of digital and social media to enhance engagement
To establish a network of ‘Content Support Contacts’ from across the organisation, collaborating with these colleagues as needed to source information
Develop a understanding of how our communities use digital channels and more traditional means of communication to engage with the organisation
To then apply this knowledge when devising campaigns, and ensure that all campaigns are targeted, cost effective, relevant and measurable
To engage with communities indirectly through surveys etc. to establish their needs and expectations
Have the ability to remain flexible and to respond in support of individual staff in the event of engagement requirements to support operations, crime spikes or community cohesion issues
Work with the wider Media and Engagement functions and all the other relevant Departments to plan, deliver and implement agreed campaigns
Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to delivering and achieving value for money, whilst providing high quality of service
To promote and comply with the organisation’s obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and Health and Safety, both in the delivery of service and treatments of others
Take responsibility for improving your performance by participating in the Professional Development Review (PDR) process with your manager
To undertake other duties and additional responsibilities which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of the post

Knowledge / Experience

• A professional qualification in communications, public relations or marketing
• Experience in working in a communications, media and marketing led environment
• Experience of implementing successful integrated campaigns
• Experience of delivering digital factors communications, designing corporate style resources and using a targeted marketing approach for a variety of different audiences
• Demonstrable experience of content management systems including SharePoint, WordPress, and other similar systems
• Maximising the potential of Digital and Social media, including updating and editing internet sites
• Knowledge of Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection Principles Legislation / Issues

• Understanding of the principles of good design, including layout
• Awareness of Media Law
