Mechanical Fitter - Rail
Burton Upon Trent
Good base salary+ good overtime rates, good pension & excellent other benefits

As a world leading engineering company with a proven track record in providing advanced engineered solutions, predominantly to the rail industry (locos, not infrastructure), as well as tunnelling and construction, my client has a history and pedigree that spans more than a century.
They have developed some novel equipment that is usually attached to locomotive and that provides additional capabilities and functionality to the locos.
Due to an increased workload and a healthy order book, they are now looking to bring in an additional Mechanical Fitter to join their already impressive team.

As a Mechanical Fitter you will:
• Be responsible for fitting components and similar mechanical fitting on a range of rail and associated equipment
• Work from mechanical schematics to ensure the accurate fitting of systems to locomotives and associated systems and associated equipment
• Carry out mechanical assembly on equipment that will subsequently be fitted to the locos and then fitting this equipment onto the main loco system
• Carry out some electrical tasks (not electrical work but the mechanical aspect of connecting mechanical parts for the electrical systems); for example you may be feeding wires through a loco and will need to take off and re-attach internal panels
• Advise the rest of the team (mechanical, Project teams etc.) on any mechanical issues or suggestions
• Occasionally go to customer sites to provide on-site fitting and advice to their own teams

In order to be considered for this Mechanical Fitter role it is expected that you will have:
• Relevant industry experience and the ability to work alone or as part of a small but enthusiastic team
• Recognised industry qualifications relating to your craft
• An ability to work from mechanical schematics / engineering drawings
• Experience of discussing mechanical fitting matters with colleagues and offering solid advice on best practice
• An ability to work with customer’s engineers, both verbal / written and face to face on site
• An ability to work with multi-disciplined teams
• A good understanding of site and workshop Health and Safety

Exposure to mechanical fitting on Locomotives, similar rail orientated equipment or off-highway vehicles could be a distinct advantage

In addition to working with one of the world leaders in what they do, you will be rewarded with;

  • A good hourly rate / salary based on your skills and experience
  • Good overtime rates including significant enhancements if you visit customer’s sites
  • Good Pension
  • 33 days holiday per year (25+8)
  • Superb training and career development opportunities
  • A fantastic and well-appointed site with superb working conditions
