An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part qualified management accountant to join a charitable organisation within Portsmouth.

About The Role

Reporting directly to the Financial Director you will be responsible for the day to day production of financial information for use by management. Work in accordance with the objectives of the organisation which are “to provide accommodation and day care facilities for single people in need and to reduce social exclusion by providing opportunities for resettlement within an environment that encourages dignity, stability, confidence and self-worth”.

• Production of the organisation’s annual budget including the drafting of guidelines and written review(s) of outcomes for the Finance Director to enable presentation to the board as required. Maintain and provide supporting information and analysis.

• Production of management accounts to the board, senior management, contract & performance managers and other budget holders ensuring that the information provided is appropriate to its purpose and facilitates budget holder commentary, where required. Prepare written review of results. Supervise co-ordination, summarisation and dissemination of budget holder feedback. Maintain and provide supporting information and analysis.

• Preparation of full- year income and expenditure forecasts as required, using budget holder input as appropriate. Periodically, prepare detailed forecasts (by account/service), including those for use as budget base.

• Production of financial information for tenders and bids for new and repeat support contract and other grant-funded business. Work closely with management to ensure consistency between financial and operational information and to optimise the presentation of financial aspects of the bid.

• Using the information from tenders, set budgets for new services. In liaison with management, set budgets reflecting revisions to existing services.
• Set rents and service charges based on the annual budget and on other relevant information. At any change, produce data which give managers and other operational staff the information to enable them to communicate effectively with housing benefit departments and with clients.

• Short (daily), medium and long-term cash flow recording and forecasting and management of bank balances within board approved constraints, ensuring maximum interest earned on existing accounts, whilst having money available when required.

• Production as required of revised financial business plan based on annual budget and periodic updating as required/appropriate.

• Assist the Financial Accountant with preparation of the statutory accounts.

• Provision of relevant financial training and guidance to management at services, other operational staff and budget holders.

• Authorisation and transmission of BACS payment runs, and to sign cheques.

• Any other reasonable duties required to assist the smooth running of the office or in the interest of the organisation.

Experience in budgeting and forecasting

At least 2 years experience in a senior accounting position

CIMA/ACCA part qualified
