Reed is seeking someone with these qualities to join the libraries team at Southend-On-Sea Borough Council. This is a great opportunity to provide essential front line services at the libraries of Southend.
This is a part time, permanent job on the following basis: working 15.5 hours including Saturday 8:45am – 5pm, with the remaining hours throughout the week depending on service requirements. Please note the Saturday hours are the required hours and cannot be changed.
Library Officers play a vital role in delivering a high quality service to library users. You will be in a position to provide a high standard of customer care and undertake all day to day library duties, including using the ELAN computer system alongside other IT systems. Duties also include carrying out associated clerical routines and dealing with directional and other routine enquiries as well as updating information files and reference material. This is a fantastic opportunity to have a proactive involvement in assisting in the provision of an efficient and effective local library service as well as supervising, supporting and working with volunteers.
The team are looking for individuals who have experience of working with the public in a face to face customer orientated environment. Evidence that you enjoy working with people and relate well to people at all levels is necessary as much of the time is spent working with the public, therefore tact, patience and a pleasant helpful manner is essential. Naturally, having an interest in and awareness of what the library service currently provides for customers is required to succeed in this job. Furthermore effective verbal and written communication skills, a good standard of general education in a range of subjects and good standard of numeracy will also need to be demonstrated. Proven experience and examples of working as part of a team is also required. Lastly, as this role is peripatetic you will need to be flexible to location.
