Our REED Education FE branch are currently working with a great college on an exciting new role in the Kingston area, starting immediately. The college are looking for an outstanding Learning Mentor – Art and Design to join them on a temporary basis.

Our client is one of the highest performing colleges in London, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2014. It is a major provider of further, higher and adult education to over 3,000 students.

The Role:

•To support and mentor learners at risk of social exclusion to help them access the curriculum and successfully complete their course.
•To be a Learning Mentor for a small cohort of learners under the guidance of a member of academic staff.
•To maintain regular contact with the learner and for a learner under 19, with his/her parent/guardian to support the learner to attend classes
•To follow up on non-attendance promptly and provide support and guidance to encourage a return to class
•To work with learners to help them develop planning and time management skills to support the completion of course assignments to deadline
•To work closely and effectively with the staff responsible for the learners academic and personal progress
•To keep tutors regularly informed of learners progress and help identify any additional support areas
•To maintain additional support records to audit standard and deadlines as required

What you will need:

•Hold a classroom assistant certificate or other relevant qualification
•A good understanding of the support needs of young people and adults in FE
•Experience of working with young people or adults in a mentoring / supporting role within and educational setting
• English and Maths (A*-C) GCSE or equivalent.
