A leading broadcaster is looking for a Java Software Developer for an initial 7 month contract opportunity based in Glasgow and will be paying up to £450 per day – deemed inside IR35.The business are working on an Aggregated Meta Data Platform. The Software Developer Java will be working on some Sub Products within this. They will be developing a system which insulates the broadcaster from changes to external Business Systems used within the business. The aim will be to format data to be useful for the rest of the company. This will be predominantly centred around scheduling of TV Programming.

The broadcaster need someone with more exposure to Dev Op’s roles. The manager has highlighted that they need someone who knows AWS and configuration management. Ansible and Puppet would be ideal. The managers list of requirements are as follows:

1. JAVA experience.
2. Spring and Hibernate experience.
3. Configuration Management experience.
4. AWS experience.
5. Test and behaviour driven development experience. TDD is essential and BDD is a serious plus.
6. Experience of continuous delivery and deployment experience is needed.
7. They need someone keen on managing infrastructure more than software.

Knowledge and Skills
• Significant and demonstrable Java development experience.
• Significant and demonstrable experience of using frameworks such as Spring Framework and Hibernate
• Significant and demonstrable experience of using Unix/Linux based operating systems including performing basic administrative tasks.
• Significant and demonstrable experience of test-driven development alongside use of automated test frameworks, mocking/stubbing and JUnit
• Significant and demonstrable experience of scripting languages such as Ruby, Python or similar
• Proven experience of project working and commercial development processes, particularly agile methodologies
• Experience of supporting, modifying and maintaining systems and code developed by teams other than your own
• Experience of working with version control (such as Git or SVN) and bug tracking tools (such as Jira, Bugzilla or similar)

Desirable skills
• Demonstrable experience of developing on cloud-based environments such as Amazon Web Services
• Experience of server less computing environments such as AWS Lambda
• Demonstrable experience developing software in a SOA or microservices paradigm
• Demonstrable experience of configuration management tools such as Ansible
• Demonstrable experience of using provisioning tools such as AWS CloudFormation
• Demonstrable experience using Behaviour Driven Development with Cucumber
• Experience designing or implementing public facing REST APIs
• Experience of the following is highly desirable: Java, REST, XQuery, XPath, XSLT, JMS, Linux, HTTP, PostgreSQL
• In-depth knowledge of large scale database and NoSQL design and optimisation
