The purpose of the post is: to provide 1st Line Support as part of a comprehensive IT Service for all Staff and Students .

The main duties and responsibilities are to:

1. Provide a polite and professional customer focused IT service to staff and students.

2. Log, actively respond to and where possible resolve, incoming technical telephone calls, emails, voicemails etc. via the College’s helpdesk system.

3. Assist in the delivery of a central helpdesk facility and via a rota system, ensure that there is adequate cover at all times.

4. Keep users informed on the progress of requests and escalate problems or high priority calls to the IT Support Manager or IT Systems Engineers as appropriate.

5. Install, configure and maintain IT related hardware / software at a basic level (1st Line) to ensure operational effectiveness to the highest possible standard and in accordance with IT policies.

6. Support the College’s telephone systems including installation and basic troubleshooting of handset or cabling faults.

7. Liaise and work with 3rd party vendors to resolve hardware or software issues.

8. Maintain and support College AV equipment including interactive whiteboards, projectors, digital cameras, DVD players etc.

9. Contribute to effective team work and a service oriented culture within the IT Service Team and be involved in planning of future IT projects & developments.

10. Assist in the maintenance of the College’s inventory / asset register and related documentation ensuring that records are updated as necessary.

Generic Duties:

11. Use, install and maintain software according to manufacturer/vendor licensing regulations and ensure that any appropriate Copyright is adhered to.

12. Follow strictly the requirements of the College’s health and safety policy and comply with the College financial regulations.

13. Promote a positive image of the College in all contacts with students, employers and professional bodies.

14. Attend and Participate in College meetings as necessary.

15. Participate in staff development activities and undertake further training as part of your continuing professional development.

16. Work flexibly in order to satisfy the organisational needs, including enrolment and occasional evening or weekend work.

17. To maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for any member of staff, students or department of the college and adhere to the College’s Data Protection Policy and the Data Protection Act 1998.

18. To uphold and promote College policies, procedures and controls, including the College’s Equal Opportunities policy and promoting those specifically applicable to this area of work.

19. Carry out other reasonably comparable duties that may be required from time to time.
