Risk Management

1. Develop and maintain an effective strategy and framework for managing the Authority’s risks and to promote, support and co-ordinate its implementation at elected member and officer level
2. Ensure that the identification and management of business risk is embedded in the Authority’s culture and business processes
3. Provide advice, information and training on risk management to elected members and officers
4. Ensure that the Authority’s risk management practices reflect professional and sector best practice


1. Ensure that the Authority has adequate external insurance provision for its business needs, identifying new areas of business risk as they arise and ensuring that they have appropriate cover
2. Achieve best value in the procurement of risk management and insurance services
3. Oversee the processing of claims within the Finance team
4. Negotiate and settle claims in the Authority’s best interests
5. Review claims and other data to identify improvements in risk management and reductions in the cost of insurance


1. Develop and maintain the Authority’s Counter Fraud Bribery and Corruption Strategy, co-ordinate the delivery of the Counter Fraud Action Plan and promote a counter fraud culture
2. Work closely with internal audit to co-ordinate the delivery of the internal audit plan, monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and ensure that the requirements of the National Fraud Initiative are delivered
3. Support the development of the Authority’s corporate governance and assurance processes and the work of the Governance Group
