Proactively provide advice and guidance on all employee relations and change management matters to managers and staff in the allocated business areas.
This will include, but is not limited to, disciplinary and grievance processes, ill health issues, restructuring, TUPE and performance management including capability.
Act as a first point of contact for all employees on HR related issues, using initiative to trouble-shoot and problem solve as required, bringing issues of concern to the attention of the Head of HR.
Carry out employee relations and change management activities to ensure that employee relations and organisational change processes are delivered professionally within agreed time frames and fully meet best practice and legislative requirements.
Manage an employee relations caseload, which can be complex, as directed by the Head of HR and provide regular reports and updates as necessary.
Monitor both short and long-term sickness, advising line managers and ensuring that staff are managed in accordance with college policy, to enable return to work at the earliest opportunity and, where necessary, appropriate support and advice is provided liaising with external health providers or similar organisations as required.
Assist with the development, maintenance and updating of Policies and Procedures in line with statutory requirements, legislation and good practice.
Recommend best practice to ensure that managers/staff receive appropriate training to enable them to perform their duties effectively
Participate in a variety of HR project work as required, particularly relating to the development of HR services and the evolution of HR policies, practices and training to support changing requirements with in legislation.
Provide advice and guidance on maternity, paternity and parental leave policies, procedures and issues associated with pay ensuring that appropriate policies, legislation and procedures are adhered to.
Lead on all aspects of the College’s recruitment and selection procedures providing professional support as required, including:
o Ensure innovative and cost effective solutions are utilised to attract the best candidates
o Attend selection interviews and assessment centres as required.
o Provide interview panels with advice and guidance on relevant aspects of employment law, policy and procedure and the candidate’s suitability for the role and guidance on appropriate salary point.
o Ensure the accurate and timely production of offer letters and Contracts of Employment.
Provide line managers with advice and guidance on appropriate aspects of employment legislation adhering to relevant policies and procedures.
Ensure all pre-employment checks are carried out in line with legislation and best practice.
Ensure that the Single Central Register is kept updated for the allocated business areas.
Examine job descriptions for consistency and parity between posts and grades in accordance with the evaluation procedure and carry out job evaluations as required.
Fully utilise the HR information system (iTrent) to assist processes and ensure accurate records are held.
Ensure that timely management reports are produced and circulated as required.
Provide support to the other HR team members as required.
As required attend and contribute to all relevant Committees as the HR representative.
