Currently recruiting for a Homelessness Prevention Officer in the Wembley Park area (5 minutes’ walk from Jubilee and Metropolitan lines). Proven experience of carrying out statutory homelessness assessments and making statutory homelessness decisions is essential to be considered for the role.
The successful candidate will manage a caseload of people who are currently experiencing a housing crisis, and provide a service that seeks to minimise the duration of that crisis. You will need a good understanding of the complex, multiple needs as well as strengths of those individuals/households and you will develop trusting, non-dependent relationships to improve their confidence and motivation to progress towards their next step in housing. Maintenance of up to date knowledge of the different housing options available to service users seeking accommodation and systems of access to housing of all types including the private rented sector is necessary.
Part of the role is assisting people in understanding the rented housing market, keeping up-to-date with Local Housing Allowance, benefit changes, and opportunities and providing some support for households through the resettlement process when moving to a new home. You will also help tenants with preparing defence forms for section 21 and other relevant court proceedings and attend court where appropriate to support tenants with a defence against claims by their landlords.
Some more aspects of the role:
• Interviewing applicants who approach the organisation in Housing Need and determine next actions
• Conduct home visits to investigate circumstances of households
• Facilitate the Housing Options and Advice Surgeries within the community
• Maintain detailed knowledge of homelessness legislation, case law and government guidance concerning Local Authority’s statutory duties
• Empower individuals/households to find a solution to their housing crisis, drawing on the assistance provided by the Housing Options team and deliver the Housing Needs Out-of-Hours Service as required.
