A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health and Safety Manager with Transport for Greater Manchester. This role is based on an initial 3 month temporary contract, on a full time basis, and is available immediately.

What’s my role?

To deliver a comprehensive, efficient and effective health and safety management service to Transport for Greater Manchester in line with legal and organisational requirements. The primary duties within this role will be to design, develop and implement the procedures necessary to provide safe systems of work. You will be expected to promote and participate in safety education programmes and carry out regular inspections and audits of sites in order to identify unsafe working conditions and practices.

In addition, you will take a principle role in accident investigation, assessing possible causes of injury and circumstances likely to produce an accident, and compile appropriate reports. You will also be able to give relevant advice to prevent recurrence and make recommendations for remedying any issues found.

What skills do I need?

• Extensive experience in a Health and Safety Management position within a Transport, Construction, Facilities or Retail background.

• NEBOSH or IOSH accreditation is essential.

• Ability to lead accident investigation procedures and ability to provide relevant reports and advice.

• Experience of facilitating audits and inspections of projects or sites, and ensuring implementation of findings.

• Knowledge of current best practices in Health and Safety, and ability to liaise with official bodies such as HSE, Government Inspectorates, Police and Local Authorities.


The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a fast paced and outcome focused environment. You will possess great attention to detail and be able to multi-task effectively. You will also be proactive, highly motivated, organised and have the ability to manage and work as part of a team.

Previous experience working within a Local Authority environment would be advantageous.
