An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Building Surveyor to join a friendly and successful Surveying team at Southend Borough Council.

The successful candidate will be trained to assist with the design, implementation and supervision of capital and revenue contract work, programmed and responsive maintenance works, as appropriate, for all Council-owned public buildings. The provision of technical advice, preparation of specifications including supervision of works as appropriate for schools.




Candidates will be provided training to ensure that they are able to undertake the following tasks:-

To design various major and minor capital and revenue projects including estimating for such, preparation of tender documentation and specification, placing out to tender, supervision of works, contract administration up to and including the agreement of final accounts.

To prepare specifications for programmed maintenance contracts covering mechanical and electrical installations, including estimating for such, preparation of tender documentation, specification, placing out to tender, administration of contract for the prescribed period of the contract by liaising with Contractors, Property Managers and Clients.

Ensure that all works comply with Building Regulations, Codes of Practice, Health and Safety Legislation and any other statutory requirements relevant to the specified works.

Ensure all project documentation complies with the Council’s and Group’s policies and procedures in relation to project management and contract management.

Undertake surveys of properties, as required, and prepare and provide detailed reports covering condition surveys, upgrade requirements, risk assessments and planned maintenance.

Any other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post.


Candidates must possess a relevent HND/Degree in a subject demonstrating  some knowlege of the building/surveying industry.
