My client who are well established and growing construction business are seeking a Financial Controller lead their finance function. The role will suit a dynamic qualified finance professional who wants to join a business with a great culture who operates in a professional manner but is interested in ensuring their employees enjoy the working environment.

If you are a fully qualified accountant with experience developing and managing finance departments along with creating and embedding processes and procedures within the Construction industry this could the role for you.

This role will ensure the department is efficient and effective to assist in maximising profit, ensure all statutory regulations are undertaken within required timescales and accounting transactions comply with regulations and company polices.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Manage, support, train and co-ordinate the accounts team and provide support for the Directors and Contract teams
• Work closely with HR/Office Manager providing support and coordinating of monthly meeting for payroll/HR
• Manage cash flow, including updating weekly cash flow forecast, liaising with Contract Managers in relation to valuations, monies in and contract ash flows along with coordinating the weekly meeting
• Coordinate and develop monthly accounting routines
• Undertake debt chasing internally and externally
• Prepare all control account reconciliations, overhead schedules, accruals and prepayments
• Prepare monthly divisional management accounts and KPI reporting for board
• Attend CVR meetings, providing support and financial information to contract managers, if required assist in CVR reporting
• Undertake monthly payroll for hourly and salaried staff and submissions to HMRC
• Prepare and submission monthly CIS return, ensuring CIS rules are adhered to
• Preparation and submission of payroll year end items and P11Ds
• Quarterly VAT and annual CITB return and submission
• Complete year end and preparation of Audit file, liaise with external auditors
• Provide cover for account team functions including bank reconciliation, payments runs for purchase ledger and subcontractor ledger, preparation of sales invoices from payment certification, entering subcontractor valuations and purchase invoices
• Develop financial systems, procedures and management information
• Undertake company secretary duties, coordination and liaison with insurers r.e. renewals and other ad hoc projects

Person Specification

You will be/have:

• A qualified accountant (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, ACA);

• 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Previous experience working within the construction industry
• Demonstrated experience managing and motivating a finance team as a Financial Controller ideally within construction or fit-out & refurbishment field
• Self-motivated, experience of setting own & team targets and implementing them
• Prior experience developing & implementing finance systems, processes, procedures and models
• Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft IT suite, in particular Excel (pivot tables and V-look up)
• Experience and willingness to be hands on and provide cover for the accounts team
• Vast accounting software packages experience, specifically experience with construction industry specific ones
• Proven track record of problem solving and ability to work under own initiative and as part of a small but busy team
