ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER
Located at: Tame Street Depot, Tame Street, Stalybridge, Tameside, SK15 1ST
36hrs per week (Monday - Friday)
An opportunity has arisen for a position in the Single Regulatory Service for an Environmental Health Officer, working within the Public Protection Team on a fixed 6 month contract with the potential for further extension.
You will be an Environmental Health Officer with experience working in Environmental Protection and will be required to carry out the following duties:
- To carry out research, inspections, sampling, programmed and random checks to monitor compliance.
- To advise customers, traders, manufacturers and importers in accordance with relevant legislation.
- To assist with the identification of the Services needs and objectives and the work programme.
To provide an environment health education service to the public and commercial premises.
Further duties will include responding to enquiries and undertaking investigations relating to general pollution/environmental protection work including but not limited to statutory nuisance, planning applications and local air quality. Post graduate experience and a qualification in noise measurement and control would be an advantage.
You will be an excellent communicator, skilled in partnership working and working with a diverse range of partners to achieve common goals. You will be a strong team player, customer focused, highly motivated and flexible who can engage with communities and businesses and have a real passion for improving public health and protecting the environment.
You will have practical experience of enforcing legislation within a local authority, and have full understanding of the practicalities of carrying out compliance and enforcement work. You should also be familiar with Quality Systems and have a good working knowledge of a range of IT packages.
