Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is offering an exciting job opportunity for skilled and experienced Practitioners (Social Workers) to join an Edge of Care Team to work intensively with families. The aim is to keep children out of care, to prevent becoming looked after, to work intensively with identified foster families where the placement is assessed as at risk of breaking down. Alongside working intensively with identified adolescents to better meet their needs. This role is being offered on a full time basis for 37 hours per week from 8am – 11pm on a shift rotation. It will include working evenings and weekends. This job is being offered on a Fixed Term Contract basis until March 2019 due to funding by payment by results

The job role will be located within the Edge of Care team, and will build upon the core elements of the service already in place, ensuring families access all the existing services and the Troubled Families programme. The multi-disciplinary team will be available to support families 7 days a week between the hours of 8am and 11pm, reflecting the fact that a family’s needs don’t stop outside of office hours. Practitioners will work side by side with families, foster carers and their Social Workers, using proven methodologies such as motivational interviewing and brief solution focused therapy; supporting families to address issues that may result in the removal of their children. There is a real focus on the reunification strategy to avoid young people avoiding entering to care system if it is appropriate and safe to do so. The aim of your caseload is to enable them and improve their opportunities to remain as a family unit.

The team require the successful candidate to be a qualified Social Worker with HCPC registration. You must have knowledge and understanding of the effect of social and economic disadvantage on young people and families to be effective in this role. The team are seeking someone who has experience of working with families and children with a passion to empower families to change to give them a better quality of life. In addition, they require a car driver or have the ability to move around the Borough for this job.
