Data Systems Manager:

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • To be responsible for the design and management of data and information systems.  This responsibility includes but is not limited to:
    • The co-ordination and integration of information systems, using SQL Server, SQL Server Integration Services, MS Access and other appropriate tools
    • The technical planning of all systems with regard to the distribution and synchronisation of operational data.  The systems covered include but are not limited to:
  • Web site
  • Staff intranet
  • Email and calendars
  • Task tracking and planning
  • Resource bookings
  • The maintenance of central SQL databases, including but not limited to:
  • Administering and maintaining SQL Server security roles, users and permissions
  • Liaising with suppliers
  • To work with the IT Support Manager and the IT Infrastructure Manager to jointly manage the day to day operations of the Information and Technical Services team.  This includes but is not limited to:
  • Direct line management of the Data Systems Developer and any other member of the Data team who may be appointed, setting their priorities and targets, overseeing their daily work and ensuring that their objectives are met
  • Operating a centralised task management system to track and plan all tasks
  • Sharing resources, especially staffing, to meet common goals
  • The planning and scheduling of project and development work
  • Making joint recommendations to the Director of Information and Technical Services relating to technical systems
  • To ensure that the integrity and accuracy of data is maintained.  This includes but is not limited to:
  • The inspection, assessment and monitoring of 3rd party systems and products to ensure that systems not only function as required, but that they maintain data integrity and security
  • The tracking of data errors to identify their sources, and working with the suppliers involved to develop and implement solutions where necessary
  • The oversight of large scale data migrations where required
  • To manage the provision of centralised data and operational information to end users, including but not limited to:
  • Management and planning of the development of SSRS reports, and to create reports where required
  • Working with the Head of MIS and other key staff to effect a managed migration of Enquire reports and functions into a new environment based on SSRS and other appropriate technologies
  • Working with CLT managers to analyse business processes and to develop both the IT systems and the processes themselves to maximise efficiency and effectiveness
  • Researching and pursue 3rd party solutions to meet specific needs, with a responsibility to ensure that resultant systems are properly managed.

 

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Experience of MS SQL Server (2008 on):
    • database administration (database backup, restore, transaction log management, tuning)
    • security settings (management of roles, users; linked servers)
    • Integration Services
  • Experience in the creation of T-SQL queries and stored procedures
  • Experience of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS):
    • report design
    • data source management
    • report deployment
  • Familiarity with the dot net framework
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of MS Access including queries; VBA user defined functions
  • Web skills:  HTML, CSS, Visual Studio
  • Experience of XML
  • Experience of Programming including net languages experience
  • A working knowledge of SharePoint and its principles
