Southend-On-Sea Borough Council is excited to be recruiting a candidate to join their Customer Service team in an administrative capacity. Customer Services consists of several teams, and although posts are allocated within a specific team, everybody operates a flexible approach to ensuring all priorities are covered. As the recruitment partner for Southend Borough Council, Reed are eager to support Customer Services in finding a new team member to join this busy team.

This job is being offered on a permanent, full time basis (37 hours) and will be based at the Civic Centre.

The main purpose of the job is to operate professionally as an individual and as a team member for the benefit of the customer, regularly contributing ideas, suggestions and feedback to appropriate line managers. You will deal with a range of enquiries, processes and procedures by various channels from both external and internal customers contacting the team. As all customer service vacancies involve dealing with members of the public you will be expected to provide an efficient and courteous response to enquiries in person, over the phone and in writing as this will ensure the team are meeting their service level agreements. This job will initially be manning Switchboard and responding to the main Council inbox together with other telephony based customer service duties. This is part of the Customer Service Centre which offers a variety of tasks which includes reception which involves assisting customers with all manner of enquiries, switchboard, responding to the main Council inbox, scanning and indexing, telephone enquiries to the Customer service team etc. The team are supportive and where possible will cross train you on areas so you can learn new skills, they offer courses that will be beneficial to you so that you are confident in your duties (e.g. customer care and data protection).

This job role will require you to have a good general education at GCSE level or equivalent as you will need to demonstrate strong written communication. The team are seeking someone who has experience in using Microsoft Office packages including Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as other databases and it will be essential for you to have timely keyboard skills, a good telephone manner and interpersonal skills. The team are looking for experience of customer conduct and providing high quality customer service. You will be expected to work to deadlines and be able to prioritise your workload.
