One of the largest local authorities based in London are looking to recruit a Communications and Content Officer on an initial 3 months contract with possibility of further extensions if all goes well. It is a full-time role Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week.

Purpose of the role

To help engage residents and other stakeholders in the council’s people-friendly streets programme through the development and delivery of creative and high-quality content across a range of on and offline channels (both councils run and owned by others).

Working across traditional and digital channels including the corporate website, social media and print publications (such as the residents’ magazine, posters, direct mail etc.), the postholder will help the council tell its story by creating compelling content about the work the council is doing to create people-friendly streets. They will need to juggle multiple projects, delivering high quality, engaging content and campaigns on time and on message. 

Key responsibilities

  • To help deliver a digital communications and engagement strategy to engage residents and other key stakeholders in the council’s people-friendly streets programme, support behaviour change and promote and protect the council’s reputation.
  • Working with the wider communications team, the service and other partners where appropriate, create multi-channel, content-led campaigns in support of the programme, ensuring that activity is appropriately targeted and positioned to engage relevant audiences and encourages behaviour change where applicable.
  • Ensure the co-ordination, production and evaluation of resident-facing information, ensuring high quality, value for money results, in line with deadlines and corporate frameworks and standards.
  • To play a key role across social media platforms – both those accounts, and feeds managed by the council and by others – ensuring that opportunities to increase engagement with target audiences about the programme is maximised and that the council’s messages, position and brand is both protected and enhanced. As part of this, ensure content is timely, creative and targeted and makes positive use of gifs, videos and so on to reach the people we most want to engage.
