- Undertake planned and routine maintenance on a wide range of building components; this will also include inspection, testing and commissioning in accordance with Trust procedure.
- Undertake essential repair works and daily maintenance defect work ranging from floor and roof structures to fire compartmentation, screens and doors including egress escape routes, windows and doors. Installation of, design and manufacture of purpose made fitments and furniture renovation to recognised standards and time scales.
- Diagnose and repair faults on complex specialist automatic doors, multi function prison locks, sliding sash opening window mechanisms, blind mechanisms, aluminium door frame sets and magnetic locks.
- Carry out minor new installation and alteration works to with carpentry and joinery services.
- Undertake Service Level Agreement work for other NHS organisations and private customers in a professional manner, comply with their guidelines and systems of work etc. and accurately complete all paperwork.
- Responsible as the carpenter/joiner authorised competent person for the use of woodworking machinery.
- To advise your Supervisor regarding building component failures, of additional works required and to identify materials and specialist services required.
- Complete all works to a high standard and to the satisfaction of your Supervisor whilst meeting the Departments aims and objectives.
- Participate in the NHS Labour Management Scheme (LMS) including the daily completion of job dockets, summary and timesheets.
- Ensure all report forms and documentation are accurately completed in compliance with the Departments policies and procedures.
- Carry all works out to approved safety systems at all times to prevent damage or injury to ones self, other staff, plant and equipment with particular care when working in hazardous, confined, unpleasant areas or working at height.
- Ensure all works are carried out to comply with manufacturers technical specification, Health Technical Memorandums (HTM’s), Approved Codes of Practice (ACoP’s), Construction Skills Certificate Scheme (CSCS) Registration and the Trusts’ Safety Standards and Procedures (see also Risk Management / Health & Safety section).
- Use correctly relevant tools and machinery in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and in compliance with Health & Safety guidelines.
- Be responsible for all your tools, equipment and materials whilst carrying out work in a safe manner when working in the mental health, forensic services and acute hospital environments.
- Interpret and work from routine instructions, drawings and specifications without supervision.
- Undertake a limited range of other trades work relating to the work in hand with a level of competence following appropriate training.
- Communicate with customers at all levels to ensure jobs are completed
to their satisfaction.
- Undertake work in patient and staff occupied areas with regard for the health and safety of the occupants and in a sympathetic manner.
- In response to the changing needs of the Trusts’ service, work with Maintenance Services Management to develop new initiatives that positively contribute to the overall efficiency and performance of the Department.
- Undertake formal certified or in-house training as identified to develop specialist skills or to comply with a statutory regulation requiring a valid certificate of competence supported with a history of competent working practices. 
- A commitment and flexibility to the Departments service objectives, ie. prepared to work through lunch breaks and overtime at short notice as dictated by the needs of the service.
