Based in Wolverhampton, our Client is looking for a Business Planning Controller to join their rapidly growing team as follows:

What’s the role?
We need to manage our resources efficiently so we can inspire people to be the very best they can be. My job is to:

• Deliver an exceptional financial and business planning service that monitors how we’re doing and where we plan to go
• Deliver great control, insight and leadership, translating operational business plans into our overall business plan
• Be accountable for supporting accurate and timely financial reporting and an exceptional financial partnering service to major investment areas

What will I have to do?
• Be specifically responsible for the preparation and maintenance of Business planning models, your role is that of technical expert.
• Actively lead the collation of short term ( 1 and 5 year) operational plans, interpreting the key cost drivers and risks to prepare long term ( 5 and 30 year) business plans so that we can achieve our business goals
• Make sure that we are reporting planning information that is timely, accurate and appropriate, ensuring any deviation from previous plans can be accounted for and justified
• Ensure Value for Money targets are reflected in plans alongside the Finance Business partners, with appropriate benchmarking and setting of targets and timescales for delivery with business heads. Monitor delivery against the VfM targets
• Recognise and interpret business activities and trends and reflect these in business plans and forecasts ensuring joint ownership of outputs from the planning process with leadership teams
• Be specifically responsible for any regulatory or external returns relating to the business plan and will keep myself up to date with changes in regulations or legislation. I will be responsible for any related further analysis or remodelling of these plans
• Review audit recommendations and instigate improvements
• Build an excellent working knowledge of the systems used by my team and I’ll be the expert user of business planning systems and ensure they are appropriate for business need

What do I need to be successful?
• Work closely with the Finance Business Partners to ensure we deliver the directorate objectives through a proactive and agile approach to our service
• Ensure I stay abreast of developments outside of Bromford, reviewing ours and other sectors
• Aware of sector risks and ensure appropriate assumptions are made in plans to reflect these risks
• Have a good working knowledge of Treasury accounting and our loan portfolio and ensure this is reflected within our business plans and cashflow forecasting
• Be a qualified member of a recognised accounting body with 3 years senior accountancy experience
• Have recent practical experience of budgeting, management accounting and business planning
• Have a good understanding of appropriate legislation, taxation, risk, treasury accounting, financial reporting standards and best practice
• Be able to prepare, review and challenge complex business cases
• Have excellent excel and data manipulation skills
• Have good systems experience, both of finance systems and operational systems, and be quick to pick up new ones
• Have good communication and influencing skills, be able to translate financial information into meaningful management information to aid decision making
• Have an eye for detail and the ability to understand the overall view of the business and translate that into business plans and models using appropriate assumptions
• Build effective proactive stakeholder relationships based on trust and respect
• Trust people, show personal integrity and put others first
