Our Heathrow based client in the logistics industry is continuing to expand, as a result they are looking to add to their team an ambitious and enthusiastic Assistant Accountant/Credit controller (vice versa) to look after UK customers and accounts. The role will be reporting to the Financial Controller. 

What does the role entail?

This is a 50-50 role for an Assistant Accountant/Credit controller in the sense that you will have a mixed and varied role. Invoice volumes are high and this role will be responsible for circa 100 live accounts
In addition the role will support the Financial Controller generally and will include various balance sheet reconciliations. 


Account Payable duties
Statement reconciliations
Send payment requests to cashier
Posting invoices & expenses

Accounts Receivable

Credit Control
Issue statements

Cash
Posting cash payments & receipts
Cash allocations
Bank reconciliations

General Ledger

Inter-company reconciliations
Accruals & Prepayments
Month end
Other duties include VAT returns, Payroll journal and reconciliations and Customs reconciliations. 

Credit Control duties

• Credit control processes include debt chasing, cash allocation and cashiering
• Standard debt chasing includes chasing by telephone, e-mail or letter
• Deals promptly with customers written and verbal inquiries
• Ensure credit limits are set on all accounts and updated on a regular basis
• Ensure new accounts are approved correctly and appropriate documents such as Standard Terms & Conditions are issued promptly
• Manage notification of companies in administration or with cash flow difficulties as appropriate
• Manage the legal process as required including issuing of “Letters before proceedings” via external debt collection agency
• Review bad and doubtful debts monthly
• Cash allocation: BA CS, cheque and credit card
• Liaise with Purchase ledger clerks on Contra agents
• Assists in daily, weekly ,monthly, adhoc reporting requirements
• Opens new credit accounts ,address amendment and closure requests
• Accounts Receivable Projects as assigned
• Maintains accurate records, system and manual
• Other related tasks, as required

Other
• Provide support to the Financial Controller as required
• Various balance sheet reconciliations













Key Competencies

• Ideally looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant/Credit control officer 
• Basic accounting knowledge
• Understands the responsibility that comes with working in a small team
• Organised with effective planning skills

Person Specification

Essential Skills:
• Minimum one years’ experience of credit control and cash allocations
• Possibly an AAT studier with desire to move in to an accounting role
• Effective liaison across the business at all management levels
• Ability to work in a focussed manner to individual targets and deadlines
• Effective communication skills – verbal, written and a good telephone manner essential
• Use of large ERP system
• IT Literate – fully competent with MS Word and Excel inc pivot tables and v look ups
• Works well within a team and individually

Desirable Skills

• Relevant industry background - such as freight/logistics is an advantage 

Personal Attributes:
• Self-motivated with high energy work rate
