Arborist opportunity available now with the Oxford City Council

Located in Cowley, Oxford you will have the opportunity to work for the Oxford City Council in one of their Arborist positions

This role is to start immediately until Mid-August 2017 currently

Do you have a full UK license?

Duties include:

Undertake skilled, arboricultural operations in public parks, playing fields, highway areas and similar open spaces in a safe manner

Undertake the full range of arboricultural operations as specified in any works order or contract specification.

Carry out visual and climbing tree inspections and report findings (within Schools, Universities, Parks as appropriate).

Maintain appropriate machinery and P.P.E, in line with policy and procedures as laid down in the parks and green spaces quality assurance system, and in line with other Council departments.

Participate in out of hours call outs and storm warning standby.

Participate and contribute to the ethos of teamwork and flexibility within the team.

Drive Council vehicles as required, at all times adhering to the City Council’s Drivers Handbook.

Carry out work in line with Oxford City Council policy as regards Health and safety at work and in line with the Health and Safety at Work (1974) Act. To work within the Quality Assurance system and all associated paperwork.

Deal with members of the public in a professional manner

Undertake any other responsibilities that may be required by the Parks Manager, commensurate with the grading of the post.

Essential Criteria

Formal arboricultural qualification Level 1-2 or equivalent experience.
NPTC or LANTRA equivalent qualifications below
CS30 Chainsaw Crosscutting & Maintenance
CS31 Small fell
CS38 Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue
Literate and numerate to understand work instructions and site plans and complete written reports (GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths).
Full clean valid UK driving licence
Able to identify species of trees and fungi, pests and diseases that can infect trees along with the practises for controlling these
Able to climb trees using climbing equipment and work at height using a chainsaw and other pruning saws

Hourly rate is £10.79 per hour plus holiday pay
