Reed are recruiting on behalf of Oxford City Council for an Allocations Officer, paying £15.15ph and for an initial period of 6 months.

The candidate will be providing housing options advice and take homeless applications under Housing Act 1996 part 7 as amended Homelessness Act 2002.

Role Purpose

• To allocate properties and be fully responsible for those allocations
• To carry out the Council’s statutory duties under current legislation, when preventative work or housing options have been exhausted
• To work as part of the Housing Needs team in providing advice to clients and applicants with reference to all policies and procedures

Key Responsibilities

• To allocate property in line with the Council’s policy and procedures
• To assess a client’s housing need and provide an individual options plan
• To supervise the work of the Housing Needs Assistants
• To work in accordance with the Business Units policies, procedures and performance indicators
• To liaise with other Business Units and external organisations
• To assist in the general administration of the Housing Needs Team
• To carry out duties in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and procedures
• To ensure the verification and validity of new applications and relevant documentation including carrying out home visits
• To report issues or problems through the Housing Needs Management team via the Manager
• To participate in the Council’s Out-of-Hours emergency Housing Options rota
• To update and maintain the computer records held on HMIS, including information relating to applications for housing and maintaining financial accounts, and reporting any irregularities to management
• To monitor service area delivery and support continuous service improvement, challenging existing practice and actively seeking ways of achieving Greater Outcomes and Leaner Delivery (GOLD)
• To act as ambassador for the service area both internally and externally representing the service area priorities and organisation initiatives as appropriate
• To contribute to projects; to contribute to service project teams as required
• To support development & delivery of a system of continuous review and improvement within the Service so that ‘traditional thinking’ is challenged and innovation pursued.
