Procurement & Supply Chain Market Overview
2013 saw the world of Supply Chain and Procurement evolve into more complex international networks as a result of companies going through integration as well as responding to recent challenges and rapid developments in worldwide commerce. With the slowdown in Europe and North America the spotlight was redirected to Asia. With a trend towards securing FTAs, many companies set up hubs and regional offices in the Singapore as low cost sourcing options, higher volumes of customer orders from emerging markets and a strong infrastructure and transportation network in Asia made us an attractive spot to establish regional supply chain hubs.
Industries such as Food & Beverage, Health and FMCG were particularly active in recruiting procurement and supply chain professionals. There was also a big increase in the amount of Demand/Supply planning positions as companies moved away from having Sales & Marketing teams cover this function. Meanwhile 2013 was a tough year for Shipping and Transportation due to global slowdowns.
In 2014 hiring activity is expected to remain relatively steady and demand for experienced supply chain and procurement professionals will remain strong. 2014 will continue to be a good year for Food & Beverage, Healthcare and FMCG, as well as Retail and Pharmaceutical. Candidates with strong end-to-end Supply Chain and Procurement experience coupled with integrated skill-sets in Lean or Six Sigma knowledge will be more sought after and those at a mid to senior management level, capable of driving supply chain strategies and continuous business processes improvement, will be in particular demand.
