REED in the Community
Working for REED you know you're at a company that cares
We are a business that cares and are committed to making a difference in both the local community and worldwide. Eighteen percent of REED is owned by the Reed Foundation, a charitable foundation set up by Sir Alec Reed.
The Reed Foundation has provided the seed for a number of charities, including Ethiopiaid, Womankind and Women at Risk. The Reed Foundation has also given a number of one-off donations to charities, including a One Million Rand grant to the Nelson Mandela Foundation to support education in South Africa and two million pounds to the West London Academy in Ealing.
Ethiopiaid is a fundraising organisation set up by Sir Alec Reed in 1989 with seed funding from the Reed Foundation. The aims of Ethiopiaid are to 'relieve poverty and sickness, to preserve health and to advance education amongst Ethiopians who are in need'. Since 1989 Ethiopiaid has donated over US$33 million to Ethiopia.
In 1989, Sir Alec Reed established a charity called Womankind Worldwide to work with disadvantaged women in developing countries, the charity was launched on International Women's Day. In 1996 REED set up Women at Risk as a fundraising charity for the sector. Women at Risk generated over US$1.5 million for beneficiaries such as women who have survived acid attacks and those campaigning against Female Genital Mutilation.
The Big Give
TheBigGive provides and intelligent way for proactive philanthropists to support charities and projects of interest, and for charities to engage with donors old and new.
The Big Give showcases the work of over 9,500 charities and run a wide variety of innovative programmes which help charities raise further income whilst enabling donors to increase the impact of their donations. The Big Give's main initiative is the annual online matched funding 'Christmas Challenge' - which helped raise over US$20m in 2011 and over US$50m overall.

Being a people focused company we aim to help the local community as many ways as possible, whether this is through a charity scheme or social initiative. Internally we encourage all Co-members the opportunity to give easily and effectively to charity and on a wider scale scale REED works on a number of social Initiatives to provide support and awareness.
