Job Purpose & Context:
To be an integral part of the intelligence unit responsible for providing research direction on strategic / tactical and emerging issues enabling Senior / Chief Officers at Tasking and Co-ordination meetings to set policing priorities at local, cross-border and serious organised crime levels (Level 1, 2, and 3).
 There may also be a requirement to work at other locations within the Force Area. Postholders will be required to participate in a duty rota system to ensure that core hours of the unit i.e. 7.00 - 19.00 are appropriately staffed.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
(a) Scan and evaluate intelligence / information from open and closed sources and research various databases
(b) Produce meaningful research summaries utilising all analytical products and techniques in order to provide direction and focus to the Force / BCU’s / Departments.
(c) Identify and research data in relation to problems, patterns, trends or series of offences 
(d) Identify nominals and/or groups who are linked to various types of criminality including serious and organised and/or national security in order to produce analytical products/briefings.
(e) Identify intelligence gaps during the production of research to enable the Analyst to direct and focus Field Intelligence Development Officers.
(f) Prepare and deliver research findings in the form of presentations as required, individually and to support the Analyst to facilitate analytical documents.
(g) Provide a weekly overview of emerging and current Force / BCU / Department issues and disseminate to the relevant customers.
(i) Collate documentation for the Tasking and Co-ordination Group Meetings to assist Analyst in delivering the issues to such meetings.
(k) Prepare statements of evidence for court and attend court as a witness if required to assist in the criminal justice process.
(l) Undertake all responsibilities relating to information management, data quality, information sharing, intelligence and information security in accordance with the ACPO Guidance on the Management of Police Information in order to achieve compliance with the Statutory Code of Practice.

Essential experience:
(a) To be fully conversant with the National Intelligence Model and its practices to be able to work in the Intelligence Unit.
(b) To be skilled in all relevant IT systems e.g. i2, NICHE, Corvus, PNC, Storm, Holmes II, Delphi, including the analytical processes to be in a position to understand the capability of such systems to ensure efficient process.
(c) To have an overview of procedures and ability to understand legislation and guidelines. (e.g. MIRSAP guidelines where necessary)
(d) Proven ability to communicate both verbal and written to be able to deliver findings.
(e) To possess excellent visual communication skills in order to facilitate the presentation of complex data in a simple and understandable format.
