A Group Technology Team, PDA Platform, requires a Test Automation Specialist to deliver a functional regression test automation capability, over an initial 5 week period, to support the Outdoor Actuals (OA) project.
The OA application is already Live having delivered its Minimal Viable Product release (Early Deployment to 600 PDAs), and is now entering its next phase; a scalability release to achieve national deployment to the entire 70,000 PDA estate. This release will be heavy reliant on functional regression testing in response to client/server code enhancements, defect resolution, server configuration and performance tuning, infrastructure changes, application co-existence testing, integration with new components (eg RED, MMB), and environment changes/deployments along the project's route to live.
A Full time specialist 'Developer in Test' resource is required to deliver the automation framework.
Role Profile
Delivery to be managed through the Agile Scrum framework with 1 week sprints, including demonstration of outputs to OA stakeholders.
Week 1: Feasibility assessment through integration with the Android emulator, and agree the remaining 4 weeks' scope.
Weeks 2 - 3: Early proof of concept that adds value by automating key functional tests.
Weeks 4 - 5: Refinement to deliver the agreed solution, including documentation and handover to the project test team.
Key Services to be provided over the period, reporting directly into th OA Test Manager.
Develop an automation framework to automate the existing OA functional regression test pack, or an agreed subset thereof:
Configure an Android emulator to represent the TC75 RMG PDA-ST baseline settings
Inject pre-determined GPS routes (GPX files) through the Android emulator running the OA app, including provision to input additional variables eg speed, bearing, device IMEI ID, GPS accuracy, stationary time.
Intercept and validate client requests, before sending to the OA server solution end-point.
Intercept and validate server responses, before sending to the OA client/Android emulator.
Validate client behaviour using the Android/OA debug logs - through regular expressions/pattern matching.
Export downstream outbound messages as a subscriber of the OA MQ instance.
Validate the outbound message content against the input routes/parameters, using regular expressions/pattern matching or comparison to a 'what good looks like' baseline.
Testing the automation solution provides accurate results and is fit for purpose.
Implement an automation wrapper to enable scheduling of test execution, input of test data parameters/files, and reporting of test results to highlight failed test scenarios and steps within, including supporting test evidence.
Automation to support Microsoft Azure/cloud hosted environments at a minimum.
Required Skills and Competencies
Essential:
Previous experience in delivering an Automated Test Framework for mobile devices.
Agile/Scrum experience, including BDD.
Experienced using Jira.
Experience with Continuous Integration - Jenkins.
