The post-holder is responsible for providing support, advice and guidance to the Engineering and Informatics team to aid in the operational delivery of the Company  Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Policy across all the organisation’s activities.
This includes:

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Representing the Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing act as the first point of contact for H & S issues within the  Engineering and Informatics, acting in an appropriate and professional manner at all times;
• Develop and deliver health and safety training to undergraduate and postgraduate students;
• On behalf of the Head of HSW, all equipment requiring statutory compliance testing and examining;
• Work with colleagues and the FoEI to coordinate the implementation of, and compliance with, the Company Health, Safety and Wellbeing strategy, policies and procedures across designated business areas and, as relevant, to external stakeholders;
• Support the review and improvement of risk assessments and associated processes, actively seeking opportunities for reducing residual risk, as far as is reasonably practicable;
• Develop relationships with internal networks to maintain a clear focus on HSW priorities, ensuring that issues are tracked to satisfactory conclusion;
• Act as a point of contact for the FoEI on HSW matters in allocated specialist areas as the subject matter expert in Engineering and Nano materials safety and other areas as may be appropriate;
• On behalf of the Head of HSW monitor PAT and LOLER compliance within the Company working with respective  Directorates;
• Ensure that regular effective inspection regimes and audits are maintained;
• Working with the FoEI support and promote improvements required in areas where HSW shortfalls are identified through audit or inspections;
• Attend  H & S Panel meetings submitting reports and advising as may be appropriate;
• As may be appropriate undertake investigations into accidents and incidents to identify root cause factors and monitor implementation of remedial actions and report findings via appropriate channels;
• Enthusiastically promote and communicate HSW across the Compoany;
• Act as a role model for HSW best practice, coaching and training new or less experienced colleagues when necessary;
• Any other duties appropriate to and commensurate with the grade of the role, as requested by the Head of HSW.
