A Brief History of REED

1960: Humble Beginnings
The first REED branch opened on Kingsley Rd, Hounslow, West London on 7th May 1960. In the early 1960s, REED pioneered specialist recruitment services, a move which fundamentally changed the UK recruitment market.
1972: Educate to Accumulate
In 1972, Sir Alec Reed founded the REED Business School in a Cotswolds manor house to provide a learning centre for REED co-members as well as residential courses for Accountancy students. In 1976, the Business School was used as the location for an episode of Dr Who.
1988: Building the Foundation
The Reed Foundation acquired 18% of the REED companies and, in the following year, founded both Ethiopiaid and Womankind Worldwide.
1990: Online Revolution
In the early 1990s, REED became the first high street recruitment agency in the UK to have a presence on the web. reed.co.uk has become one of Europe's biggest job boards, being used by 85% of the UK's top 100 recruitment agencies
1995: Reed Learning
Launched in 1995, Reed Learning has become one of the UK's leading business training providers. It was the first provider to launch Green Learning courses, which are the exclusive training partner to Google and winner of several national training awards.
1998: Welfare to Work
Established in 1998, Reed in Partnership now delivers three of the Department of Work and Pensions top five performing welfare to work programmes.
2004: Reed Consulting
Reed Consulting, established in 2004, has helped numerous organisations save millions of pounds by changing the way they approach resourcing. Now known as Reed Talent Solutions, they continue to change the workplace for the better for organisations large and small.
2007: Just Keep Giving
theBigGive.org.uk is a non-profit, charitable website which enables donors to find and support charity projects in their field of interest. The Big Give was founded in October 2007 by Sir Alec Reed CBE. Since its launch, The Big Give has raised over £50 million.
2008: REED Goes Global
reedglobal.com went live in October 2008 to provide a website for the UK & Global REED offices. Since then it has grown to be a hub for HR & Recruitment news, industry & insight, and a place for candidates & clients alike to develop their teams and careers.
2010: 50 Years and Counting
In May 2010 REED celebrated a successful 50 years at the forefront of recruitment.
