Moving from Canada, New Zealand or Australia

Many teachers from Canada, New Zealand or Australia come to the UK to teach because there are more teaching opportunities available here and you get the added bonus of travelling Europe.

If you are moving to the UK from Australia, New Zealand or Canada then you will need to apply for a youth mobility visa to work in the UK. This visa allows anyone from a commonwealth country that is under the age of 30 to live and work anywhere in the UK for up to 2 years.

All teachers that wish to work in the UK as a qualified teacher will need a Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) number. If you're from a country that is part of the commonwealth, then the process of obtaining your QTS number is quite simple as you have a similar curriculum to us. Some teachers can receive their QTS certificate only a few days after applying.

It is easy to apply for a QTS number, all applications can be done online via the GOV.UK website. For more information and a link to the application form visit the site here.

EEA nationals

If you hold a passport for a country that is part of the EEA then you are currently allowed to live and work in the UK as long as you wish.

In terms of qualifications, you will need to apply for a QTS number. Depending on how different the school curriculums are between countries will determine how long it will take you to receive your QTS number.

Coming to the UK from somewhere else?

If you are looking to emigrate from a country outside of the commonwealth or the EEA then you will need to apply for one of the other 3 types of visa's which are outlined here.

Reed Education are only able to work with you if you hold a valid visa which entitles you to work in the UK.
