The Czech Republic (CR) has a population of 10.2 million, has been a member state of the European Union since 2004 and is one of the most stable and prosperous of the post-Communist states of Central and Eastern Europe. The Country borders with Poland, Germany, Austria and Slovakia.
The Czech Republic has one of the most developed industrialized economies of the post-Communist states of Central and Eastern Europe. The principle industries are heavy and general machine-building, iron and steel production, metalworking, chemical production and electronics.
Purchasing property in CR is a simplistic process, although there are additional requirements imposed upon foreign nationals. At the present time foreign nationals from the European Union can purchase and own real estate. A large family house in Prague can cost in the region of 10,000,000 - 50,000,000 CZK (£338,000 - £1,690,000). Outside of Prague prices fall within the region of 3,000,000 - 10,000,000 CZK (£101,000-£338,000). Most Czech's, however, reside in flats and these start at approximately a third of the cost of a large family house.
Renting property in CR can be a lengthy and expensive process largely due to shortages of property and a distinct lack or agency regulations. A months rental of a medium size, two bedroom flat, including gas, electric and heating is typically within the region of 20,000 CZK (£675). Making sure you are informed as possible about the rental process will minimise risk of future problems associated with the rental of the property.
CR entered the European Union with a tradition of quality education and has made a significant contribution to the knowledge economy of the entire region. CR education system follows the same basic structure as the UK: Primary and Secondary followed by College or University.
Foreign students meeting basic requirements can attend Czech Primary and Secondary schools and Universities. Most schools do require a sound knowledge of the Czech language apart from specialised schools.
Setting up a bank account in CR is relatively straight forward. You will need a passport and a small initial deposit. It is worth doing some research surrounding the various services available as fees do vary from bank to bank.
Czech, the native language, is a West Slavic language alongside Slovak and Polish. This is the language used by most people in the Czech Republic. Czech is similar to and mutually intelligible with Slovak and, to a lesser extent, Polish.

Prague's public transport system is very well developed, efficient and accessible, and because of it's popularity with tourists relatively cheap compared to other EU countries. Prague Metro, Prague Trams and buses all offer excellent coverage of the city and offer a sound method of transport for tourists and inhabitants alike.
CR sits in a temperate climate zone experiencing relatively mild winters and summers, and only moderate levels of rainfall. Average temperatures in the summer range from 23-29 Degrees Celsius, and in the winter from -11-0 Degrees Celsius.
