About t
he LTA - Combining our strengths

Lancashire County Council, together with Reed Education, established the Lancashire Teaching Agency (LTA) in September 2002. We combine our core business of recruiting and deploying supply teachers with an innovative approach to professional development and utilisation of the latest web-based technology.

Each partner brings a strong complementary mix of core skills to the agency.  Through a commitment to professional support and career development of teachers, we make a major contribution to the Authority's strategy to recruit and retain high quality teachers in Lancashire schools.

Best value for Lancashire schools

The primary aim of the LTA is to supply high quality, trained teachers to schools in Lancashire. The very highest standards of service delivery and school/teacher support are underpinned by rigorous quality management procedures, implemented in partnership with the schools.  We use on-line systems to deploy teachers to increase the efficiency of administrative processes and to deliver and record professional development.

Lancashire Local Authority serves one of the largest shire Counties in England, with a total population of 1.15 million.  There are currently 178,000 pupils, being educated in 28 nursery schools, 29 special schools, 11 pupil referral units, 499 primary schools and 88 secondary schools. 17 secondary schools provide education post-16. 52% of the primary and secondary schools are denominational in nature.

For schools, the Agency offers a comprehensive, added value service. This includes a thorough recruitment processes including interviews and selection, a programme of induction, faster and more precise matching to school requirements, continuous professional development and less time spent by Head Teachers and Managers in trying to source supply. The management fee that is charged to schools for this improved service represents best value in comparison with other providers.

First choice for teachers

For teachers, the LTA allows a high level of flexibility and choice in terms of positions and schools. The LTA is able to offer opportunities for career progression, support and movement into permanent employment. Your dedicated LTA consultant remains in regular contact to ensure that you receive a professional and personal service. Teachers are Lancashire employees, paid through the County Council and engaged under the terms of the School Teacher's Pay and Conditions Document, with the occupational benefits that this brings (for example, continued membership of the Teachers Pension Scheme).

Teachers registered with the LTA are required, as a condition of their registration, to commit to a minimum level of training to ensure their professional currency. Training needs analyses are undertaken for all LTA teachers from which individual learning and development plans are developed and delivered.
